Worth checking out as both certification and being a native English speaker are not essential but perhaps given higher priority at Wonderkids. They add: “You must have at least one year of previous teaching experience, but you do not have to have a college degree or a certification”. Also, WonderKids offer classes in English, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Science and Phonics.
There are some glowing reviews online:
“I worked for Wonderkids and it was fantastic. Who cares about Dino? (in reference to a previous poster). He is the owner. As a teacher you work mostly with the head teacher, a very accomplished American woman called Baasima. I always got paid right on time. I was treated with respect and everyone was very polite. I worked for Wonderkids for a year and I want to kick myself for leaving. It is a great school. The Chinese assistants are very helpful and friendly and Baasima is always just a message away to help with tips and other information.”
Anecdotal but being detail specific of an individual is often a good sign.
Here is an interesting Facebook review posted in 2017 without any referral incentive:
Twenty-three is the minimum age allowed and additional work is required to prepare homework assignments and continuous feedback is expected, so this may not be for everyone. Both students and parents will then grade their teachers. Otherwise materials are provided by the school allowing you to rock up with little else to prepare.
All kids are aged 5 to 15 with group classes paying more per hour, however most sessions are one on one. Bear in mind initial trial lessons only pay $5 for 30 mins.
